La Gloria: Las Isletas, Granada, Nicaragua
Perched on the hilltop of a small island in Lake Nicaragua, this is a private weekend residence designed in the rich tradition of Balinese Courtyard Architecture. It incorporates a sequence of small intimate structures visually separated by use but linked by an expansive pool terrace with dramatic views over the lake. These buildings are designed as living organisms and can easily adapt to different uses and environmental conditions. The project is grounded in the belief that building systems must operate in a sustainable manner and that natural resources must be recycled. Material selection follows suit: all elements used in the project are locally and naturally produced.
