I have experience of taking the dog to the vet every year for his injections, and know he can gets pretty angry when he thinks he thinks he's going to get hurt. So I took no precautions - I lashed him against the swimming pool fence and tied his mouth shut with a rope. And yanked out the spines with a pair of pliers.
