·Playa Colorado

Friday, February 10 at Playa Colorado: Overhead, Glassy

Swell ramped up through the day, light offshores, sunshine. Perfect 10 backside barrel by Lester!!

Thursday, February 09 at Playa Colorado: Head High, Clean

Small in the morning, getting chunky by late afternoon. Looks like the new swell will deliver...

Wednesday, February 08 at Playa Colorado: Chest High, Clean

Full moon, strong winds and FREEZING cold water... for here anyway!! Some OK lumps coming through bit nothing to write home about. Strong southerly swell on its way. Should be good by the weekend...

Tuesday, February 07 at Playa Colorado: Chest High, Clean

2-3ft fun through the afternoon at Colorados. Light winds and rain just before sunset.

Monday, February 06 at Playa Colorado: Chest High, Clean

2-3ft, light offshore. Sunny. The wind is forecast to pick up midweek, then reduce again for the weekend swell. Fri, Sat & Sun looking GOOD!!!

Sunday, February 05 at Playa Colorado: Overhead, Clean

Light wind and strong swell continues!!

Saturday, February 04 at Playa Colorado: Overhead, Glassy

Been a long wait, but we finally got some decent waves again!! Strong southerly pulse generated by storm somewhere off the coast Chile.

·Panga Drops

Wednesday, February 08 at Panga Drops: Chest High, Slightly Choppy

Fresh southerly pulse nearing our shores, likely to get good for the weekend. Strong wind at the moment!!

Tuesday, February 07 at Panga Drops: Chest High, Clean

Once again, an overcast start to the day and light winds. Steady 3-4ft working best at low tide.

Friday, February 03 at Panga Drops: Head High, Clean

We finally got some swell!!! Windy & overcast through the morning, more unseasonal rain (heavy!) at lunchtime, then got OK through the afternoon...

·Playa Santana

Sunday, February 05 at Playa Santana: Head High, Clean

Santana lit up a treat on strong southerly. Light wind through the morning.

January 2012

·Playa Colorado

Monday, January 23 at Playa Colorado: Completely Flat, Glassy

Nothing happening on the beach today (except some girls taking photos of each other...)and nothing on the forecast until the end of next week. Completely flat at Colorados. Occasional rideable wave at Panga Drops, but tiny.

Sunday, January 22 at Playa Colorado: Completely Flat, Glass Perfection

Tiny waves today and nobody surfing, so here's a Village Life report instead...

Monday, January 16 at Playa Colorado: Chest High, Slightly Choppy

Strong wind and small swell continues. Early morning and late afternoon it would have been OK if it weren't for the full tide.

·Panga Drops

Saturday, January 21 at Panga Drops: Head High, Clean

2-3ft, light offshore breeze. Sunny!!

Friday, January 20 at Panga Drops: Chest High, Slightly Choppy

The swell's down from yesterday, but some OK waves still coming through at Panga Drops. Light offshore. Scattered showers, some heavy.

Thursday, January 19 at Panga Drops: Head High, Clean

With torrential rain though the night, a grey start to the day and light offshore winds its feeling more like May or June at the moment. Colorados not doing much early, but Panga Drops churning up some fun ones. Head high on the sets and clean.

Wednesday, January 18 at Panga Drops: Chest High, Clean

January rains known locally as "Las Pintas" continue. These rains are no good for agriculture and actually cause normal dry season produce (mangos, jocotes, pipians) to rot fast. The surf still sucks...

Tuesday, January 17 at Panga Drops: Chest High, Slightly Choppy

The Papagayo hasn't and according to the forecast won't let up, more January rains. Some OK waves at Panga Drops, Colorados closed out.

Monday, January 16 at Panga Drops: Chest High, Clean

In spite of the strong winds there was some fun to be had at Panga Drops today. First January rainbow I've ever seen!!

·Playa Santana

Thursday, January 19 at Playa Santana: Chest High, Clean

Peaky high tide micro-barrel session over at Santana. Makeable barrel sections coming through both on the left and right.

December 2011

·Playa Colorado

Saturday, December 24 at Playa Colorado: Overhead, Clean

Christmas Eve: Not feeling much like December with strong swell, cloudy skies and even a few drops of rain. Wind blowing at about 15mph from the North East which is side offshore.

Friday, December 23 at Playa Colorado: Overhead, Clean

Strong swell continues! Light wind early morning and late afternoon, breezy through the middle of the day. Most of the action on the left again.

Thursday, December 22 at Playa Colorado: Overhead, Glassy

The Christmas swell is here!! According to the forecast it should ramp up on Christmas Eve when the swell period is due to lengthen & strengthen...

Friday, December 16 at Playa Colorado: Head High, Clean

Breezy again, but plenty of swell still lingering in the water. Barrel fest on both the left and right.

Thursday, December 15 at Playa Colorado: Head High, Clean

Good waves all week, just been a bit hectic to take any photos. Dec 9th, 10th, 11th & 12th was looking like mid June w/ light wind and some truly bestial sets. Smaller now and fairly windy, but plenty of fun still to be had. The forecast is looking good for Christmas!!

Tuesday, December 06 at Playa Colorado: Overhead, Glassy

OK waves all day really switched on for the late afternoon and sunset session when the wind died down. Swell direction is SW putting most of the action on the right toward the north of the break.

Monday, December 05 at Playa Colorado: Head High, Glassy

We were in the kitchen at The Wave Garden talking about the scenes to be used in the final stage of the mural when I spotted Lester in just the right place for this little nugget. Grabbing his camera, fumbling with the lens cap and the power switch Rob came up with the goods on this sequence of him getting shacked right past the front door...

Thursday, December 01 at Playa Colorado: Chest High, Clean

Chest to head high and breezy.

Friday, December 30 at Playa Colorado: Overhead, Clean

Some good moments, but generally a stirred up mess with strongish south westerly swell and gusty side offshore breeze. Could get good on the tail end of the swell provided the winter offshores don't go ballistic- which is just what they are threatening to do.

November 2011

·Playa Colorado

Thursday, November 24 at Playa Colorado: Head High, Clean

Not huge, but definitely juicier than it has been the last few weeks. The odd decent size sneaker sets coming in. Distinct smell of roasting turkeys wafting out to the lineup on the gentle offshore breeze! All in all, a truly beautiful day. GRACIAS!!

Wednesday, November 23 at Playa Colorado: Chest High, Clean

Moderate side offshore wind through the day reduced for a a fun low tide sunset session. Occasional overhead sets showing up, but generally still small. Got pretty solid mid afternoon a couple of hours after high.

Sunday, November 20 at Playa Colorado: Chest High, Clean

Been OK on the mid tides and occasional rogue sets coming in, but all in all the last 10 days have been tiny. Small swell due to start filling in tomorrow and a juicier swell showing up at the end of the long range (Tuesday week).

Monday, November 07 at Playa Colorado: Head High, Clean

Peaky fun with occasional bit of juice rolling in every 15 minutes or so. Both the left and the right working OK.

Sunday, November 06 at Playa Colorado: Chest High, Clean

Sunny day again, but smaller than yesterday and more wind. Occasional overhead sets coming through. Great views looking toward Gigante.

Saturday, November 05 at Playa Colorado: Overhead, Glassy

Not great through the morning, but sorted itself out for a fun afternoon/ sunset session on the falling tide. Light side-offshore breeze, sunny day.

Friday, November 04 at Playa Colorado: Head High, Clean

Good on the mid to low tides today. Both lefts and rights working well. Sunny day, light offshore breeze.

Wednesday, November 02 at Playa Colorado: Overhead, Clean

Some decent sized sets finally arriving off fresh SSW swell. Sunny day, moderate side-offshore breeze.

·Playgrounds

Friday, November 11 at Playgrounds: Chest High, Clean

45 minute drive + 45 minutes trek = Playgrounds. Was small today, but punchy and a lot of fun. Remoteness thins out the crowds, provided there aren't too many boats. Moderate side offshore breeze through the morning died down after lunch.

October 2011

·Playa Colorado

Monday, October 31 at Playa Colorado: Small But Surfable, Glass Perfection

No wind and barely any swell giving tiny, glassy waves.

Thursday, October 27 at Playa Colorado: Overhead, Glassy

Sunny, 10-12mph offshore breeze, 4-5ft. Nobody around.

Wednesday, October 26 at Playa Colorado: Overhead, Glass Perfection

Sunny day, light offshore breeze, perfect waves. Plenty of swell still in the water with period hitting the Colorados sweet spot. Super hollow, draining barrels both left and right. Hardly any tidal movement meaning it was GOOD ALL DAY!!

Tuesday, October 25 at Playa Colorado: Overhead, Glass Perfection

Great weather, strong swell and the offshore winds seem to be back with us. Shame about the crowds!!

Monday, October 24 at Playa Colorado: Overhead, Glassy

Heavy rain before sunrise cleared up the choppiness from yesterday and new swell arriving. Fun early morning session!!

Saturday, October 08 at Playa Colorado: Overhead, Glassy

4.5ft 16 second swell coming in at 222 degrees lighting up the right perfectly. Moderate offshore breeze beginning to feel like November. Forecast not looking good for the next few weeks.

Friday, October 07 at Playa Colorado: Overhead, Clean

Fun waves through the rising tide this morning. Light offshore breeze against 4.5ft 17 second south westerly. The left working surprisingly well considering the swell angle.

Tuesday, October 04 at Playa Colorado: Chest High, Clean

Great weather, light offshore wind. Small waves made up for by completely clear line ups.

Sunday, October 02 at Playa Colorado: Chest High, Clean

Beautiful day again with light offshore breeze. Small waves today, should be seeing some juice midweek.

Saturday, October 01 at Playa Colorado: Chest High, Clean

The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse have yet to arrive. The skies have not yet blackened, the rivers are still well within their banks, the water remains blue, the wind is still wafting lazily offshore. May it continue...

September 2011

·Playa Colorado

Saturday, September 24 at Playa Colorado: Head High, Clean

Fun afternoon barrel session. Head high waves, hardly anyone about. Stunning lightening views out beyond Los Perros headland. Silky smooth!

Friday, September 23 at Playa Colorado: Small But Surfable, Clean

The sun's out and the wind is offshore - but the waves remain tiny. Should be a fresh pulse arriving later today or tonight.

Thursday, September 22 at Playa Colorado: Chest High, Clean

Occasional head high sets appearing, but generally small. Sunny day and the wind is offshore.

Sunday, September 18 at Playa Colorado: Chest High, Clean

More swell than yesterday, but still on the small side with forecast showing 3ft at 13 seconds. Nice weather, light offshore through the morning. Swung onshore through the afternoon and clouded over.

Wednesday, September 14 at Playa Colorado: Chest High, Glassy

Similar to yesterday - light offshore breeze, clear skies early getting cloudy mid morning. 2 to 3 ft waves, glassy.

Tuesday, September 13 at Playa Colorado: Chest High, Clean

Not great, but as the wind was supposed to be onshore this morning I won't complain. This latest swell hasn't done much, occasional head high sets but generally small.

Sunday, September 11 at Playa Colorado: Chest High, Clean

New swell due in tomorrow, but looks like the weather may be getting unsettled until midweek. Still, we've had it good for the last five days and this morning was no exception with plenty of fun waves coming in.

Friday, September 09 at Playa Colorado: Head High, Clean

The swell picked up a bit since yesterday giving some fun waves both on the left and right. Sunny day, gentle offshore breeze. Not many people about.

Thursday, September 08 at Playa Colorado: Chest High, Glassy

The offshore wind is back with us and looking like the weather will be more settled this week than it was through the last. Small to moderate swell, occasional overhead sets.

·Popoyo Outer Reef

Thursday, September 01 at Popoyo Outer Reef: Double Overhead Plus, Clean

Good form on strong south westerly swell, but no takers.

·Popoyo

Thursday, September 01 at Popoyo: Double Overhead Plus, Clean

Not quite doing it on the outside reef (at least while I was there), but some juice coming in on the inside. Sets quite far apart w/ 20 minute intervals and varied in strength. XXL on the stronger pulses.

August 2011

·Playa Colorado

Wednesday, August 31 at Playa Colorado: Overhead, Clean

First signs of Tahiti monster swell rolling in. Forecast indicating 22 seconds at 4ft making this the strongest swell of the season - if it lives up to expectations.

Saturday, August 27 at Playa Colorado: Chest High, Slightly Choppy

The weather & waves have been awful the last four days - rain, onshore wind, not much swell - and the forecast for the rest of the week isn't good. However, the wind swung round to the west (cross shore)and blew very gently though the night. Though not great, there was at least a reason to get wet for the morning session...
